Everyone seems to experience a small sense of wanderlust. The two of us definitely did even before we met, traveling frequently and exploring different places and cultures.
Our story
We both had 9-to-5 jobs, lived in big cities and felt something was missing. Vacations filled that void. Then we each moved back to the Midwest, met and decided to enjoy life and its adventures together.
Before having kids, we visited nine countries and 13 states in the span of less than two years. He was a little more concerned about how kids would affect our travel habits, but we both knew it was something we wanted to prioritize so we were still going to make the fun trips happen.

Traveling as a family
We now have two wonderful boys, and while it has slowed us down in some ways, it’s also added excitement and chaos – which has changed how we travel.
When our first son was born, we took him everywhere and made sure he got used to his car seat and stroller. Then the pandemic hit, we all went stir crazy and we had to get creative with our outings (more on that in later blogs). Adding a second child made things even more interesting, but we continued to plan weekend getaways, road trips and vacations for fun quality time together.
Some people will tell you it’s too hectic or too expensive to travel with kids and constantly be on the go, but we are here to share the hidden gems we find in different places and how we do these trips on a budget – or at least discover ways to make it as reasonable as possible.
Since the boys were born, we’ve been to seven countries – without kids – and done family vacations in 24 states, and we don’t plan to let up anytime soon.

What works for us
We are by no means experts, and we don’t claim to be. We are parents. Period. We’ve made mistakes; lost our tempers; been late; gotten flustered trying to carry strollers, car seats, pack ‘n plays and bags through the airport; and sustained our fair share of meltdowns (both us and the boys). The point is: We do it. We don’t let those things deter us, because at the end of the trip, we always look back and remember the fun we had not the annoyances and inconveniences along the way.
So, we are here not to tell you exactly what you need to do, but rather share ideas, what worked for us, how you can save on your next family vacation and relatable stories all parents endure.
